Michael Jackson: 10 Reasons We Can Never Forget The King

Today marks the first year anniversary since we lost the legend Michael Jackson. Here are 10 reasons we can never forget the King of Pop.

The Jackson Five
He launched his career in the mid 60s as a member of the The Jackson Five, with his older brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon. Even back then his fans would go crazy to watch him perform. He was young, charming, and talented. Songs like “ABC,” “I Want You Back” and “I’ll Be There” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

The Moonwalk
He popularized the moonwalk, a dance only a few can master. The move was first seen during his performance to “Billie Jean” on ‘Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever’ in 1983. He was also good at doing the robot, pop locking, and smooth spins.

Thriller
The album is still considered to be the best selling album of all time since its release in 1982. Last we heard “Thriller" was certified 28 times Platinum, which equates to 28 million copies moved, and well on its way to 29x platinum. This album was one of the first to use music videos as a promotional tool. Seven out of the nine songs in the album were released as singles.

Thriller video
Where else will you see Michael lead a dance routine to a group of zombies and monsters? The full narrative version is 14 minutes long, inspired by horror films of the 1950s. It is one of the greatest videos ever made.

“EeeHeee”
This sound is recognized across the world. You can hear him scream in most of his songs and performances. His iconic dance move could not be completed without a scream at the end of his performance, Eeeheee!

The Moonwalker
The short film was released in 1988 around the time the album “Bad”, was released. The film contains a collection of long form music videos from his album. Joe Pesci played one of the main characters in the film. Although it was short lived and criticized for not having a plot, the music and dancing is enjoyable and entertaining.

Fashion Icon
He was the only person to get away with wearing black trousers, silver socks, silver shirt, black fedora, black sequined jacket and one silver-white sequined glove all at once. With the 80s look back in style, you can now find people on the streets and artists wearing the red leather jacket. With a signature look like that, who can forget him!

Neverland Ranch
A ranch renamed by Michael, after the fantasy island in the story of Peter Pan. He made his dream home a reality. 2,675 acres full of fun; it contained a private amusement park with two railroads and a zoo.

Superbowl XXVII
His performance in 1993 increased audience figures during the half-time show. He was the only performer in the entire show unlike many previous performances. He captivated the football fans with his opening stand, frozen in one of his famous poses, followed by an outstanding performance.

Humanitarian Contributions
He donated and helped raise money for many charities. He was compassionate about helping the world be a better place. As well as being the most successful entertainer of all time, he was a notable humanitarian and philanthropist.

Michael Jackson will always be in our hearts. R.I.P. King.

R.I.P Aaliyah (((9 years & still missing you)))

There are moments in life where you remember exactly where you are, what you were doing, and how you felt when something tragic happens. For me, one of those days occurred on August 25, 2001 — exactly nine years ago today — when I had just moved into my dorm room to begin my junior year of college. I had spent the day unpacking with my roommates and just got my laptop hooked up to the internet when I came across a news alert on AOL’s homepage. It said singer Aaliyah Dana Haughton had died in a plane crash in the Bahamas. Immediately, I assumed it was a internet hoax, but then I saw the footage plastered across TV.






The young singer who had redefined R&B/Hip-Hop in the late 90′s with her sultry tomboy style was taken from this earth at the tender age of 22. When I see ladies like Beyonce or Alicia Keys, young singers turned actresses, I can’t help but reminded of Aaliyah, a true triple threat, whose potential was cut short way too soon.

Take a moment of silence to remember Aaliyah. We’ll never know what might have been, but we will always remember what was. Thanks for touching our lives through art, albeit, for a brief time.

Former Knicks and Magic player Penny Hardaway says he wants to play for the Miami Heat next season, alongside LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Hardaway last played in 2007, for the Heat.





People are coming out of the woodwork to jump on the Miami Heat bandwagon now that they have the superstar trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. That includes players looking for one last day in the spotlight, too.

Penny Hardaway, a four-time NBA All-Star guard, told the Bottom Line Sports Show, an online radio program, that he wants to take the court in a small role with the Heat next season.

Hardaway, however, is 38 years old and hasn't played in an NBA game since he was released by the Heat in December 2007.

"I didn't get a chance to finish my career the way I wanted," Hardaway said on the show, which he co-hosts. Former Knick Charles Oakley is an executive producer.





Injuries cut short what could have been a great career. He was runner up for Rookie of the Year in 1994, and, with Shaquille O'Neal, led the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals the next year. A knee injury cost him most of the 1997-98 season. He tried coming back early to play in the All-Star Game, but he paid the price, as he reaggravated the injury, ending his season. He played in just 19 games that year. Injuries plagued him for the rest of his career. He played 50 or more games in only five of his final ten seasons.

Hardaway claims he's in good shape now, hitting the gym four times a week, and playing basketball as many as five times a week.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Heat President Pat Riley has yet to reach out to Hardaway.

Hardaway had a 13-year career in the NBA, playing for the Magic, Suns, Knicks and Heat. He averaged 15.2 points per game.

Russell Athletic Signs Colt McCoy to Endorsement Deal

Russell Athletic has signed 2010 NFL Draft pick, Colt McCoy, to a multi-year endorsement deal. He will represent Russell Athletic and all its brands, including Spalding, BIKE and Russell Outdoors.

"We could not be more thrilled to have Colt join the Russell Brands family," said Executive Vice President Gary Barfield. "Colt has stood for the right things on and off the field and we are excited to have someone of his character represent the Russell Athletic, Spalding, BIKE and Russell Outdoors brands. We look forward to growing our partnership with Colt for many years to come."



McCoy, who joined the Cleveland Browns, will work with Russell Athletic in continuous research and development of cutting edge products across its family of brands.

"I'm pleased to be working with Russell Brands," McCoy said. "The many different brands of Russell, including Russell Athletic, Outdoors, BIKE and Spalding represent many of the traits I strive to embody - commitment, excellence, tradition, and innovation. I hope that Russell's longevity in the business is equivalent to what my NFL future holds in store for me."

McCoy was the 85th player selected in the 2010 NFL Draft.

McCoy, a former standout at the University of Texas, will be featured in Russell Brand's advertising and marketing campaigns, including both the team uniform lines and the retail apparel lines of Russell Athletic. He will also be the highlight of in similar campaigns with Spalding, BIKE and Russell Outdoors, while also being featured in product catalogs and flyers.
